Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast (Literature)
A sometimes misinformed, sometimes shockingly informed, weekly discussion of all things that are even vaguely related to the world of comics. Each episode we review current releases, discuss issues relevant to reading and collecting comic books and mix in a healthy dose of comical off-topic banter. You can reach us at email@graphicnovice.com, or come check out the various other sources of propaganda we offer at http://www.graphicnovice.com.

Join the guys one more time, for a reunion of the mighty Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast, as Nickel and VF reminisce over their 6 month absence, and triumphant return.

If you're looking for a podcast that discusses weddings and chicken farming, this is the episode you've been waiting for.

Even though Nickel refused to take the time to put together an outline, all your favorite segment bumpers make their return... The lack of formal comic news doesn't stop us from loading the show with the sweet sounds of Creed and laser beams.

Nickel defends the longest standing championship run in Marvel Trivia Box history, which is coincidentally the exact number of days since we last recorded an episode.

In a hybrid version of reviews and comic news, Nickel discusses Secret Empire, and VF provides some insight into the new Batman event, Metal.

VF touches on some of the books he's read in the past couple weeks, Nickel opts out, and the guys avoid any tangible discussion regarding the future of the show. Stay tuned, and thanks for listening.

After The Salty Language Podcast leaves us at the alter in our pretty white wedding dresses, Episode 98 happens, and The Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast is one step closer to its untimely demise.  The guys discuss some general ongoings in each other's lives before proceeding with an always insightful and intelligent discussion on the wide world of comics.

In Comic News this week Nickel and The Velvet Fog discuss Logan, Marvel's recent sales woes and other timely topics.

Make sure you tune in to listen to Nickel's monumental performance in the Marvel Trivia Box segment.

There is no "Rapid-Fire" Review segment this episode, but the guys do look forward to new releases coming out March 8 & March 15, 2017.

Thanks for listening folks.

Not dead yet... The Velvet Fog returns from a prolonged absence and the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast makes its way back to the airwaves.  Nickel & VF discuss their absence, and spend the majority of the podcast not talking about comics... but sort of talking about comics.  Bumpers are once again rolled.

After a lot of off-topic chatter, the conversation eventually makes it to "Comic News" and the decline of Marvel's comic sales...  An old familiar subject, Nickel bitches about stuff...  Other topics include: digital codes, The Batman Lego movie, Riverdale on Netflix, Iron Fist on Netflix, and Legion of FX.

In the "Rapid Fire Review" segment Nickel & VF cover books released on February 15 and February 22, 2017 as well as the books scheduled for release on March 1st.

Thanks to Desmond Hassing, of two many discontinued podcasts to name, for joining Nickel on Episode 94.2, and a huge thanks to everyone who is still listening. Stay Classy.

Join Nickel from the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast as he tries to kill the time while VF recovers from the black plague, and records some conversations with old friends.

In this session, Nickel sits down with Desmond Hassing of "Musings of a Geek", "Arkham Social Hour", and "Slackademia" podcasting fame.  Desmond had as many podcasts as he has arts degrees, but its late and we can't remember them all...

The conversation starts with the best of intentions, but after hours of trying to figure out how to record, Nickel is unprepared to steer clear of conversations revolving around politics, twitter etiquette, or Riverdale.  There is some comic talk mixed in there, but you'll have to look pretty hard to find it.

Conspiracies are afoot following Donald Trump's election victory.  The super moon, is in the sky, VF has joined the "Trump Youth" and censored our previous episode to ensure his place in the new President's graces.

Nickel & VF start things out with an argument about the merit and existence of Episode 94.1, the Graphic Novice Post Election Podcast Spectacular.  VF blames it on the super moon, Nickel blames it on Trump.  Neil Cetrangolo of the Dark Angels & Pretty Freaks Podcast goes mysteriously missing during the clandestine recording of episode 94.1 as well, also possibly linked to the super moon...  after Nickel lets VF drop the subject of 94.1, we spend some time talking about our favorite conspiracy theories.

The General Banter or "Bullshit" segment closes with a discussion of the Doctor Strange movie and a Nickel rant about Nintendo.

Comic News is essentially swept aside for the "Marvel Trivia Box" segment, where Nickel tries to end a 10 game losing streak.

In "Rapid-Fire Review" the fellows discuss books released on November 2 & November 9, 2016 including Batman 10, Dark Knight III Book 6 of 10, Avengers 1, Champions 2, Occupy Avengers 1, Captain America Steve Rogers 7, Clone Conspiracy 2 of 5, & Invincible Ironman 1.

We sneak in some serious talk about Jeff Lemire & Gordon Downie's "Secret Path" project, and the Residential School history in Canada.

Thanks a bunch for listening. #BringBackEpisode94Point1

The Swan Song continues as we reach the half way point of our grand finale.  VF & Nickel spend a awful lot of time talking about nothing (including fellow podcaster Jason Brigger's castration, some wedding planning updates and VF's cathouse).

After an hour of literally talking about nothing, comic news is extremely x-men heavy, with Death of X discussion, a look towards future releases, X-Men vs. Inhumans, & ResurrXion.  The guys discuss their hopes and dreams for the X-men franchise, and the million x-books being slowly announced as part of the ResurrXion event. As promised, we also touch on the triumphant return of the Great Lakes Avengers.

After hours of unstructured discussion, the "Rapid-Fire Review" segment of the podcast covers new books from September 28, October 5, October 12, and October 19, 2016.  A few of the books covered include Deadly Class 22, Captain America Steve Rogers 5, Captain America Sam Wilson #13, Lazarus #25, Jupiter's Legacy Volume 2 #4 of 5, Great Lakes Avengers #1, Mosaic #1, and Infamous Ironman #1.

Thanks for continuing to let us into your ears a few times a month.

The Graphic Novice band is back together again...  After 5 weeks off, VF & Nickel reunite to discuss stock advice, The Velvet Fog's trip to Japan, and some of the highlights and lowlights of the past month.

Listener Feedback also makes a triumphant return, even though most of the questions seem to revolve around the History of Bad Ideas podcast.

And...  if you can make it through well over an hour of general bullsh*t, we do eventually discuss comics. A Graphic Novice explanation of Civil War II precedes the "Rapid Fire Review" segment, where we discuss 5 weeks of new comics, and the new books coming out on September 21, 2016.

This episode is a little bit light on comics, but its heavy with love. Thanks for listening.

Nickel & The Velvet Fog continue the death march towards the hundredth and final episode. We spend some time discussing dieting, we reveal some details about the end of the show, look into the disappearance of Ryan Beagley, and Nickel complains about fracking documentaries.

Episode 92 also features the return of our award winning "Listener Feedback" segment.

VF shares his thoughts on the Suicide Squad in "Comic News".

The "Rapid-Fire Review" segment covers books released on August 3, and August 10, 2016. Our discussion includes Batman #4, Black Science #23, Low #15, Tokyo Ghost #9, Uncanny X-Men #11, All-Star Batman #1 & Detective Comics #938.

We continue with the "The Death of Graphic Novice" story arc this week, with a very special episode.  The main plot is put is a bit of an afterthought while the guys bullshit about the Velvet Fog's old computer, Pokémon Go, some more Pokémon GO, VF's pubic hair, upcoming show guests, and the engagement of Craig Julius Nickel.

In "Comic News" the guys discuss SDCC 2016 (not really), Nickel complains about stuff, and the lack of any substantial "Listener Feedback" is explained.

Tune into another segment of "Marvel Trivia Box" to see if the Velvet Fog can extend his current winning streak.

The "Rapid Fire Review" segment looks at books released July 6 and July 13, 2016, including but not limited to: Batman #2, Flintstones #1, Justice League Rebirth #1, Black Science #22, Moon Knight #4, Punisher #3, Detective Comics #963, Wonder Woman #2, and Old Man Logan #8.

In a "Comic News" segment that spills over into several other segments, VF & Nickel talk about Midnighter, the new "Death of X" mini-series, the first appearance of Riri Williams and her role as the "new" Iron Man, and sales numbers from the past few months.

An abbreviated "Rapid-Fire" review segment includes books from June 29, 2016, and looks ahead to the comics being released on July 13, 2016.

We transition and/or limp into our final 10 episodes and welcome summer, with this, episode 89.  Don't miss out on the build up to the 10 episode, Death of Graphic Novice story arc.

The Velvet Fog & Nickel start things out with a discussion of the Creed Power Feedback Hour (Episode 88.5), VF's appearance on the Green Up Podcast, and project Cassette Tape.

In the General Banter (Bullshit) segment we address VF's podcasting prospects, his concerns with the European Union, the Canadian Postal strike, Nickel's 31st birthday, and some sports updates.

The fledgling "Listener Feedback" segment features some new bumpers, and reaches back to Episode 88.5 to re-answer some old questions, and some new.

Its back... Tune in for the bumper and stick around to see who wins the old "Marvel Trivia" segment.

Another episode of the awardless Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast, with your humble hosts, Nickel and The Velvet Fog.  This week in Bullshit, we discuss the future of the Graphic Novice Book Club, the big board game convention in St. Louis, the general discontents of Nickel, and his take on sugars and carbs.

This episode marks the addition of a completely original and unique "Listener Feedback" segment which was not inspired or stolen from any other podcast.  Tune in for a riveting discussion of Canadian superheroes in response to one of Number 1 Fan Doug B's questions.

In "Comic News" we look at the DC Universe rebirth, Captain America's betrayal, and the big Civil War movie.

In "Rapid Fire Review" your podcast besties discuss Sabrina #5, Lucifer #6, Manifest Destiny #19, Civil War II #0, Rai #13, Afterlife with Archie #9, Batgirl #52, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas #1, East of West #26, Tokyo Ghost #7, Captain America Steve Rogers #1, Carnage #8, Daredevil #7, Hyperion #3, Mockingbird #3 and Nighthawk #1.

Another episode of the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast hits the airwaves with Nickel & The Velvet Fog.  As a tribute to the Suicide Squad movie, internet issues forced us to go back and re-record several parts of this episode, delaying its release.

In the initial "General Banter" segment, now renamed, "Bullshittin'" we discuss the Alberta fires, Doc Thirst's birthday, the Fantastic Four movie, Jeff Nau's appearance on the Latest "Book Club" episode, VF's recent and future travels, vintage Nintendo systems and games, and Danger Entertainment contract negotiations.

"Comic News" is a little light this week, but we do play the bumper for all the Creed fans out there...  Looking at you Bryan from Salty Language...

"Marvel Trivia" is reduced to one question each...  due to the extended "Bullshittin'" segment.

Our second attempt at "Rapid-Fire Review" goes a little smoother once our internet issues are resolved.  We discuss Batman, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Amazing Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Punisher, The Vision, Uncanny X-Men, Nailbiter, Lazarus, Low, Manifest Destiny, Rai, and 4001 A.D.

We sneak in some discussion of the Spider-Porsche, and the History of Bad Ideas podcast before calling it quits this week.

Thanks for listening.

The Graphic Novice Comic Book podcast returns to the sweet sweet sounds of Alabama's "Dixieland Delight". After discussing some southern terminology, the guys move on to the aptly named, "Bullshit" segment, where they review the highlights and lowlights from the past couple weeks.  VF is a man on the town, Nickel is man on the ground.

"Comic News" is a little light this week, as the guys boycotted doing any sort of "research" what so ever.  They discuss the rejuvenation of Steve Rogers, VF's adventures with the DCU, and Nickel complains about stuff.

Nickel continues to complain about some stuff throughout "Rapid Fire Review", where they review Batman & Robin Eternal #26, Black Science #21, Captain America: Sam Wilson #7, Detective Comics #51, Black Panther #1, Uncanny X-Men #6, and Moon Knight #1.

The guys forget to review the books coming out this week, and limp out of town with a snappy outro discussing the pros and cons of retiring after episode 100.

"Comic News" is dedicated completely to "Rebirth".

After a long and confusing discussion on Rebirth, we move on to discuss comics released in the first half of March 2016, including Deadly Class #19, Avengers Standoff Assault On Pleasant Hill Alpha #1, Black Widow #1, Lantern City #11, Snow Blind #4, Detective Comics #50, Amazing Spider-Man #9, Captain Canuck, Low #12, Monstress #4, and Spider-Woman #5.

Episode 84 of the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast kicks off with a riveting debate on hot vs. cold.  Nickel never quite recovers in this episode after VF decides that its his turn to roll the bumpers.

After teasing the story on the twitters, Nickel v. The State tells how about 1/3 of the land that hosts the infamous Murder Cabin is scheduled to be annexed by the County for flood mitigation.  Don't miss out on this heart-wrenching tale of woe during the first hour of the podcast.

In "Comic News" we set up DC's "Rebirth" event, discuss the Deadpool movie and get to know VF a little better in the "Getting to know VF a Little Better" sub-segment.

Find out who wins the latest installment of "Marvel Trivia Box" during the segment that Michael Leal claims to have aced, "Marvel Trivia Box".

In our not-so-rapid, "Rapid-Fire Review" segment, we look at the books released during February 2016, and discuss Paper Girls #5, Velvet #13, Vision #4, Snow Blind #3, All-New Hawkeye #4, Red Wolf #3, The Tithe #8, Avengers Standoff Welcome to Pleasant Hill #1, Nowhere Men #8, Postal #10, Daredevil #4, and Black Magick #5.

We wrap up another 2-episode with a look at some of the books we'll be picking up on March 9, 2016.  Keep it trashy. Good night Ohio.

In "Comic News" the fellows discuss the upcoming prequel to Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" and various Superbowl movie trailers. Rob Liefield's comments about the creation of Deadpool, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and anticipation for the 2016 comic book movies round out the segment.

Once again, the "Marvel Trivia Box" segment exposes Nickel's lack of knowledge on the very subject matter of this podcast.  This week, VF works in Star Wars trivia questions as well.

In the inappropriately named "Rapid Fire Review" segment, comics from January 20, 27 and February 3, 2016 are discussed.

Once again, its Nickel vs. VF vs. The Marvel Trivia Box, in everyone's favorite new segment, "Marvel Trivia Box".

In "Rapid Fire Review" we discuss books released on January 13, 2016, including Batman & Robin Eternal #15, Earth 2 Society #8, Gotham Academy #14, Robin War 2 (of 2), Lazarus #21, Black Magick #3, All-New Hawkeye #3, All-New X-Men #3, Extraordinary X-Men #5, and Secret Wars #9.

This week on the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast we tip our hats to Bob Ross and paint some happy little trees... metaphorically speaking. After getting two hour plus of audio problems, we get to recording, and slap together a fairly disjointed episode, even for us.

The "General Banter" segment includes a discussion of Nickel's podcasting schedule and the History of Bad Ideas Nicolas Cage Special, Green Up's 100th episode, A lovely and undeserved gift from Desmond Hassing, VF's insurance woes, Twitch TV and of course, Bob Ross.

VF & Nickel partake in a showdown of incompetence in the "Marvel Trivia Box" segment.

In "Rapid Fire Review" we discuss comics released on October 21 & October 28, 2015, including Cognetic #1 (of 3), Hacktivist Volume 2 #4, Batman Eternal #3, Black Canary #5, Clean Room #1, Gotham Academy #11, Tokyo Ghost #2, Amazing Spider-Man #2, Invincible Ironman #2, Uncanny Inhumans #1, and Grimm Tales of Terror, Volume 2 #1, Batgirl #45, Grayson #13, We Are Robin #5, Black Magick #1, Manifest Destiny #18, Spread #11, They're Not Like Us #9, New Avengers #2, and Valiant's Book of Death #4 .

A landmark episode of Graphic Novice, where VF & Nickel bring their 'D' game and continue to try and hammer down the format and spend less time talking about nothingness... to no avail.

During the "General Banter" segment, after Nickel's microphone tries to ruin the podcast, the final episode of the show (episode 100) is discussed, the last episode of The Walking Dead, the guys toss around ideas for a new segment, probiotic gut bacteria, bidets, the invitation to present a "Floppy Award" for the History of Bad Ideas Podcast, Mr. Bloom and Poison Ivy... and theories are floated about the downtrodden state of fellow podcaster, Ryan Beagley from the Green Up podcast.

VF throws a twist in "VF vs. The Marvel Trivia Box" after being repeatedly shamed for his performance...  The new segment is titles "VF & Nickel vs. The Marvel Trivia Box".

After a brief "Comic News" segment, the guys discuss comics released on October 7, 2015 during "Rapid Fire Review".  The books discussed include Jughead #1, Batman & Robin Eternal #1, Detective Comics #45, Paper Girls #1, Southern Bastards #11, Starve #5, Avengers #0, Doctor Strange #1, and Secret Wars #6.

Graphic Novice records during the monumental Canadian Federal Election, and get a little sidetracked talking about politics north and south of the wall, after deciding that our listening audience wasn't quite bored enough with our regular programming. In an attempt to spice things up, we sprinkle in a little bit of threesome talk, which transitions nicely into a discussion about Denny's, which transitions nicely into a discussion about chickens.

With the "Intro Banter" out of the way, we decide to actually discuss comics.

We roll through an abbreviated Comic News, and VF vs, The Marvel Trivia Box and spend "Rapid-Fire Review" trying to get caught up as we discuss books from September 16, 23 and 30th, including; Black Canary #4, '68 Last Rights #2, The Beauty #2, Manifest Destiny #17, Tokyo Ghost #1 (a review of last week's review), Spider-Verse #5, Rai #10, Batgirl #44, Grayson #12, Thief of Thieves #31, Book of Death #3, Batman Annual #4, and They're Not Like Us #8.

Thanks for spending your time checking us out. Hopefully we'll see you again next week when we finally discuss all the new books coming out in October, including the Post Secret Wars Marvel #1's.

Stay Classy.

The Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast returns after getting our chakras re-aligned, and spends 3 hours catching up.  Our apologies to fans of both "Rapid-Fire Review" and the Fantastic Four centric "Back Issue Review", as this week's episode is an exercise in self-indulgence.  VF & Nickel spend the majority of this episode discussing Rose City Comiccon in Portland, Oregon, Michael Leal as the "Little Spoon", hanging out with the Beagleys, The Edmonton Comic Expo, and Metal Roofing. This episode also includes the second round of "VF vs. The Marvel Trivia Box". Listen to find out who wins.

To make up for this episode being a little light on the weekly reviews and discussion, the next episode will be comic book review heavy.

Thanks for listening, and thanks a bunch for all your support.  Our apologies for the wait.

VF, Doc Thirst and Fred bring back the Walking Dead segment after a month with no Graphic Novice recordings.  Its still a Graphic Novice episode though, so the guys avoid talking about the title content for as long as possible before digging into The Walking Dead - Volume 17 (issues 97-102), which, obviously, includes the controversial 100th issue. WARNING: Contains substantial board game conversation.

The least informed comic book podcast returns the week before the much anticipated 2015 Rose City Comicon in Portland Oregon.  Nickel has flaked out, and the guys spend a significant amount of time discussing the great betrayal.

After the details of Nickel's absence from Portland are discussed, and VF shoulders the responsibility of representing Graphic Novice in Portland we move onto the aftermath of VF's 40th birthday, and our attempt to piss off Jason Brigger.  VF almost picks a fight with Ryan Beagley, Nickel questions the format of the show, VF's chickens, Sue's Coffee, and Nickel's appearance on the Podcast Without Borders, episode #31 (not necessarily in that order).

In comic news, we discuss Rachel McAdams hotness, the five books being cancelled by DC comics, contraversay surrounding friend of the show, Greg Capullo, the X-Men and the Terrigen Mists, and at long last, comic sales for July 2015.

The Graphic Novice Comic Book then introduces a new segment...  VF vs. Marvel Comics Trivia!

In "Rapid Fire Review" we discuss the comics that were born unto this world on September 2 & September 9, including Broken World #4, Detective Comics #44, Green Lantern #44, The Empty #6, Lazarus #19, We Stand On Guard #3, Daredevil #18, Silk #7, Lantern City #5, Batman #44, Earth 2 Society #4, Deadly Class #16, Outcast #12, and Starve #4.

We wrap things up with a look ahead to the comics being released on September 16, 2015, and a final look ahead towards Portland.  Thank you so much once again for spending some time with us.

Help us celebrate Ben/Scott/VF's 40th birthday by downloading and listening to episode 71 of the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast: The Least Informed Podcast Available. We start things out by discussing Ben's birthday plans, our mortality, Doc Thirst's hockey career and table top gaming during our 45 minutes of regularly scheduled off-topic banter.  After which, we transition ever so smoothly to a jam packed "Comic News" segment.

This week in the news, we discuss DC Comics financial woes, the term "Batgirling", Marvel Comics' hip hop variants and variant covers in general, Kevin Feige throwing his influential weight around at Marvel, the new Outcast trailer, The upcoming Dark Knight III series, Chip Zdarsky writing a Jughead series, and Stan Lee's alleged abuse of his Executive Assistant.

After our loaded news segment, we roll into "Rapid Fire Review" and discuss books released on August 19 & 26, 2015, including Archie #2, Black Canary #3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #49, Manifest Destiny #16, Postal #6, Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #4, House of M #1, Valiant's Book of Death #2, Hacktivist Volume 2, #2, Batgirl #43, East of West #20, Low #9, They're Not Like Us #7, Magneto #21, Spider-Woman #10, and Ninjak #6.

We wrap things up with a look at books we plan on reading being released September 2, 2015.

The Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast returns for at least one more episode as Nickel, VF, & Snow lay down another 2 hours down on tape. Almost 3 weeks of life have passed since episode 69, and the guys catch up before moving on to discuss all the comics they haven’t read.

Nickel recalls an encounter with Canadian Reggae Sensation and friend of the show, Snow, and man of adventure, VF, recalls a day in the Escape room, but only after complaining about Episode 69.1.  Mix in a debate about twitter, some brief discussions about going to the movies, drinking habits, Whale Wars, plans for Rose City Comiccon, and a discussion of Neil's reaction to "The Slut Whisperer", and you've got about an hour of non-comic related banter to start out this episode of the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast before the subject matter gets back to comics.

In "Comic News", the guys discuss friend of the show, Nate's, Tupperware full of '90's comics, and some of the gold that Nickel was gifted out of said Tupperware full of 90's comics.

For the "Rapid-Fire Review" segment, we review some of the comics released way back on August 5 & August 12, 2015, including Detective Comics #43, Deadly Class #15, We Stand On Guard #2, Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #3, Broken World #3, Batman #43 (first appearance of Mr. Bloom), Earth 2 Society #3, Starve #3, and Secret Wars #5.

Next Episode we'll get caught up with the reviews, and hopefully, we'll both have read a few more of the books that we purchased. Thanks so taking the time to check us out.  Your listener appreciation gift bags will be mailed out soon.

Special:  A Celebration of Episode Number 69!

Jason Brigger from The History of Bad Ideas Podcast joins Nickel & VF for a celebration of human sexuality in honor of the 69th episode of the Graphic Novice (Comic Book) Podcast.

The fellows start off with a discussion of the new Fantastic Four movie to put everyone at ease, then move over to the sex and relationship questions.  Everything comes full circle (as far as comic book content) with a short discussion of contravertial moments in comics focused on sex and relationships.

Most other podcasts were too mature to make a big deal out of episode number 69.  Not Graphic Novice.  Join us next week as we return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks for listening.

Your Graphic Novice hosts are far too mature to address the connotations related to the number of this episode (because we're saving that for episode 69.1).  While we still consider ourselves a comic book podcast, it always seems to take a while before we get to comics and this week's episode is no exception. Nickel's cabin restoration continues, we are once again forced to address moon wars, and various podcast feuds that we have going on, and on a more serious note, Mrs. VF pays a visit to the hospital (she's ok).

Internet troubles (that you might not notice due to VF's magical editing) plague the podcast and almost shut us down for the night, but through sheer perseverance, and several additional alcoholic beverages, we forge ahead to comic news, where we discuss our thoughts on the new Fantastic Four movie, Jared Leto's Joker, and Batman vs. Robin.

"Rapid-Fire Review" is actually reasonably rapid for once, as we decide to limit the discussion from a few selected books from each of July 15, July 22 & July 29, 2015. Our "reviews" cover Hawkeye #22, Valiant's Book of Death #1, '68 Last Rights #1, Spider-Woman #9, Uncanny X-Men #35, Sabrina #4, Hacktivist Volume 2 #1, Captain Canuck 2015 #3, Lazarus #18, Southern Bastards #10, and Ninjak #5.

We wrap things up with a look ahead to the books being released on August 5, 2015.  Stay-tuned for our upcoming love-makin’ advice episode, featuring listener questions, sexually controversial moments in comic history, and some very special guests.  As always, thanks a bunch for listening.

Graphic Novice returns from an unscheduled hiatus with a landmark episode 68 with opening music by Henno.  VF and his sidekick discuss the stress of not reading comics, cabin renovations, Michael Leal, The Salty Language Podcast, bidets and bathroom sanitation, adventures at the dentist's office, VF vs. The Angry Ginger and a t-shirt update.

The "Comic News" segements covers Ant-Man, Batman v. Superman and why Graphic Novice didnt spend any time talking about the San Diego Comic Con this year.

In an attempt to get caught up, the guys have to dip way back into June and hide how few books they've actually read with an extremely selective version of "Rapid-Fire Review".  The comic books discussed include We Are Robin #1, E is For Extinction #1, X-Men '92 #1, and Ninjak #4 (from June 24, 2015), Captain Canuck #2, Detective Comics #42, Secret Wars #4 (From July 1, 2015), Batman #42, Earth 2 Society 2, Starve #2 (interspersed with a Todd McFarland rant), Civil War #1 and Boom!'s Strange Fruit #1.

Thigs are wrapped up, as always, with a look towards the books we'll be discussing next week.  Thanks for listening, listeners.  We love you!

Kick off your shoes, get comfortable and get ready for almost 3 hours of the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast.  The opening segment takes up roughly an hour, as VF & Nickel catch up and discuss the Graphic Novice T-Shirt campaign, cabin renovations, July 4th, gun control and fireworks.

After the non-comic related banter comes to an end, the "Comic News" segment focuses entirely on a run down of all the books scheduled for release or relaunch following the end of Marvel's "Secret Wars" event. VF and Nickel discuss each book and share their relative enthusiasm for the title.

Following one of the longer news segments, HQ sent the signal down to try and wrap things up, so the guys limited "Rapid Fire Review" to one week of books, looking at the titles released on June 17, 2015, including: Captain Canuck #2, Black Canary #1, Justice League of America #1, Alex + Ada #15, Lazarus #17, Low#7, Manifest Destiny #15, Southern Bastards #9, Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #2, Magneto #19, Moon Knight #16, Ms. Marvel #16, Old Man Logan #2, Runaways #1, Thors #1, Bloodshot Reborn #3, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #45 & 46.

The guys promise to catch up on Rapid Fire Review next episode and close out the show with a look at the books released on July 8, 2015.  Thanks so much for listening... Stay Classy.

After a week off, Graphic Novice returns to discuss Nickel's appearances on other podcasts (Gotham Lights, The Stranger Conversations, The History of Bad Ideas), as well as VF's glorious chicken coop, Graphic Novice merchandise, and a few other off-topic topics.

After getting a few kinks worked out of the show, we finally move things along to our review of new comics released June 10, 2015, including: Crossed Plus 100 #5, Lantern City #2, Batman #41, Detective Comics #41, Gotham Academy #7, Starfire #1, Mad Max Fury Road; Furiosa, Birthright #8, Black Science #15, Chrononauts #4, Descender #4, Saga #29, Savior #3, Starve #1, Ghost Racers #1, Inhumans Atillan Rising #2,  Secret Wars Journal #2, Silk #5, Spider-Gwen #5, Weirdworld #1, Grimm Tales of Terror #11.

Before calling it a night, we look ahead to the books we'll be discussing from June 17 and June 24, 2015.  Thanks for listening.

Please feel free to drop us a line if our discussion of authentic Graphic Novice merchandise has left you with a hole of desire that can only be filled by kick ass keychain bottle openers, super sweet coasters or "I heart Graphic Novice" T-Shirts.

Graphic Novice returns this week for their 65th episode with hosts VF & Nickel attempting to get caught up by reviewing 2 weeks of new comics. Slaves to the show format, we refuse to skip right to any sort of comic book banter, but instead spend the first 40 minutes or so discussing birthdays, long haul truckin', ladybugs, bee-keeping, podcasting responsibilities and our relaxed summer recording schedule.

Comic news almost gets skipped over completely, before VF sneaks in a quick discussion on The Punisher showing up for Season 2 of Daredevil next year.

In "Rapid-Fire Review" we discuss Sabrina #3, Captain Canuck #1, Convergence #8, Sandman Overture #5, Deadly Class #13, Outcast #9, Postal #4, They're Not Like Us #6, All-New Hawkeye #3, Inferno #1, Infinity Gauntlet #1, Inhumans Attilan Rising #1, Nova #31, Old Man Logan #1, Secret Wars Journal #1, Grimm Tales of Terror #11 (from May 27, 2015) as well as Archie #666, Broken World #1, Midnighter #1, D4VE #5, Autumnlands Tooth & Claw #6, Nailbiter #13, The Wicked + The Divine #11, All-New X-Men #41, Groot #1, Master of Kung-Fu #2, Spider-Woman #8, Superior Iron-Man #9, X-Tinction Agenda #1, and Years of Future Past #1 (From June 3, 2105).

As always, the show wraps up with a look at some of the books we're looking forward to checking out the following week, in this case, June 10, 2015.

Keep on Truckin'!

The Beatles wrote a song just for this occassion... We're Sixty-Four! Michael Leal of the "Who The What Now" Podcast and Danger Entertainment helps us ring in our sixty fourth episode, which we almost dedicate to the end of DC Comics' "Convergence" event.  But... It wouldn't be Graphic Novice if we didn't delay the discussion of comics, in favor of some weekly off-topic banter.  After getting all the network plugs out of the way, we get an update from VF farms, check in with Michael's many exploits and get an update on all the ongoings of the Danger Entertainment podcast network.  Nickel also takes some time to complain about stuff.

In the "Comic News" segment, Michael Leal walks us through some of the key events leading up to "Convergence", in an attempt to help us understand the consequences of DC's most recent universe-wide event.  The conversation follows a few different tangents, as Convergence is compared to Secret Wars, and the guys debate whether Marvel or DC has better villains.

In "Rapid-Fire Review" we look at books released on May 20, 2015, including Fade Out #6, A-Force #1, Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #1, Guardians of the Galaxy #27, Master of Kung-Fu #1, Moon Knight #15, Planet Hulk #1, Secret Wars Battleworld #1, Uncanny X-Men #34, Wolverines #19, Bloodshot Reborn #2, Ninjak #3, Ufology #2, and The Tithe #2.

As always we wrap things up with a look towards the books we're going to be reading next week (May 27, 2015), and say our goodbyes after a tight and efficient 3 hours of podcasting.

Back in the studio after the landmark "Guide to Secret Wars" episode, VF and Nickel spend some much needed alone time with one another.  As is often the case, it takes a little while before the topic of discussion finally gets around to comics (40 minutes to be exact).  Off-topic banter includes an update on Nickel's cabin acquisition, The Salty Language Podcast attempting to deflate Graphic Novice's Moon War victory, Doc Thirst's disdain for his fans, podcast listening habits, the weather, VF's chickens, Mad Max, and how Nickel gets drunk and lies about stuff to try and make friends at parties.

After the hauntingly beautiful "Comic News" bumper blesses your earballs, the guys discuss the Super Girl trailer, and the now cancelled Archie Comics kickstarter campaign.

Two weeks of books (May 6, 2015 and May 13, 2015) are covered in the "Rapid-Fire Review" segment including Afterlife With Archie #8, Convergence #5, Jupiter's Circle #2, Nailbiter #12, The Wicked + The Divine #10, Amazing Spider-Man #18, Ant-Man #5, Punisher #18, Secret Wars #1, Spider-Gwen #4, Spider-Woman #7, Wolverines #17, Lantern City #1, Rebels #2, Convergence #6, Birthright #7, Black Science #14, Chrononauts #3, East of West #19, Savior #2, Walking Dead #141, Howard the Duck #3, Magneto #18, Ms. Marvel #15, Night Nurse #1, Secret Wars #2, Silk #4, Thor #8, Uncanny Avengers #4 and Wolverines #18.

As always, we wrap things up looking at the books we'll be reading from the following week, and finally say our farewells.  Thanks to everyone for your support, interaction and feedback.

Graphic Novice scribe Desmond Hassing joins Nickel & VF to take an in depth look at Marvel Comics' Secret Wars.  Throughout the episode, we take a look at the history of Secret Wars, try to figure out how it will end, and eventually work through the giant list of new titles Marvel will release as part of the event.  To the surprise of no one, things tend to veer off-topic occassionally, but if you're looking for information to help you navigate the muddied waters of Marvel's Secret Wars event, where better to turn than the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast (don't answer that)?

As we closed in on the 3-hour mark, Des is blindsided by the decision to wrap things up, but not to be denied, he sneaks in a brief "Rapid-Fire Review" segment to discuss a couple books Nickel & VF haven’t discussed before, including Image Comics' No Mercy #2.

Tell your friends, co-workers, and grandparents, that the answers to all their Secret Wars questions have finally been answered...  The Graphic Novice Guide to Marvel's Secret Wars is here!

Everything starts out nice and civil as VF and Nickel discuss Mother's Day, marriage, regional differences in Canada, Rose City Comic Con, meeting new people, fear of financing, mortgages, and the cabin financing until things get a little heated during a debate of the merits of Marvel's Secret Wars Event.  VF is really optimistic and positive about Secret Wars after the first book, Nickel decides to rant incoherently on the negative side.  In a nonsensical tirade, Nickel insults Stan Lee and broad range of comic writers and confuses the '60s with the '80s, while VF prefers the path of common sense.  Early polls have Round 1 going to VF, but Nickel's incessant rambling do manage to give VF a migraine.

In our "Rapid-Fire Review" segment for books released on April 29, 2015, we talk about Batman #40, Convergence #4, Alex + Ada #14, Bitch Planet #4, Outcast #8, Red One #2, All-New Captain America #6, Avengers #44, Fantastic Four #645, Inhuman #14, Moon Knight #14, New Avengers #33, Nova #30, Silk #3, Superior Iron-Man #8, Wolverines #16, and X-Men #26.

After wrapping up our discussion of a week of reading, we once again look ahead to the books coming out on May 6, 2015 and pick the books we're most excited about.

The Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast is back for the second time this week, because we figured you just couldn’t get enough of us…  then we realized that yes, yes you can get enough of us…  but we decided to release this episode anyway.  Before we get to comics, we talk about Hollaback Girls, friend of the show Gwen Stefani, fatherly dating advice and Doc Thirst, VF’s new mattress, pillows, Nickel’s crowdfunding initiative for a new grill, our new staff writer Desmond Hassing, Salty Language and our monumental Moon War victory.

Then we discuss VF’s crush on Michael Leal.

Then we talk comic news.  We look at the Netflix Daredevil series, Lady Mechanika, The Avengers sequel, and avoid discussing the 2015 Eisners once again.

In Rapid Fire Review we discuss Lady Mechanika The Tablets of Destinies #1, Curb Stomp #3, Convergence #3, Deadly Class #12, The Empty #3, Lazarus #16, Manifest Destiny #14, Postal #3, Velvet #10, All-New X-Men #40, Amazing Spider-Man #17.1, Amazing X-Men #19, Guardians of the Galaxy #26, Inhuman Special #1, Guardians of the Galaxy And the X-Men The Black Vortex Omega #1, Woverines #15, Ninjak #2 and Kaptara #1.

WTWN v. DAPF v. GN: Dawn of The Who The Dark Graphic Freak Now.

VF and Nickel get together with a couple of their favorite podcasters, Annaleis (@wiretechgirl) from The Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks Podcast and Michael Leal (@michael_leal) from Who The What Now to share tales of Free Comic Book Days Past and Present.  Before we get to Free Comic Book Day, we take everyone down the rabbit hole with us and discuss parenting other people’s children, Tenacious D heading north of the wall, the financial woes of podcasters, Gotham, Gotham Lights, and more.  Eventually we talk comics, and discuss Free Comic Book Day, opening a Comic shop in Napa City, and The Avengers Age of Ultron movie.

Our thanks to Annaleis and Michael for taking a couple hours to chat, and to everyone who takes the time to listen.  We’ll be back to our regular broadcasting format next episode.

To celebrate the 60th episode of Graphic Novice, Nickel and VF attempt to record a 60-minute episode, and it almost happened.  An abbreviated "Banter" segment touches on our new website staff reporter, VF's new mattress, a Doc Thirst update, and Nickel's issues with the craft beer scene.

The comic news segment takes a quick look ahead to Free Comic Book Day 2015 (Saturday May 2, 2015), including some shopping tips and free book suggestions.  We address the Eisners, but postpone our in depth examination of the nominees until our next non-sixty minute episode.

For "Rapid-Fire Review", finally accurately named, we look at books released April 15, 2015 including Sabrina #2, Crossed Plus 100 #4, Convergence #2, Convergence: Shadow of the Bat #1, Chrononauts #2, Fade Out #5, Kaptara #1, '68 Bad Sign One-Shot, Magneto #17, Ms. Marvel #14, Nova #29, Thor #7, Uncanny X-Men #33, Wolverines #14, The Avengers Rage of Ultron Graphic Novel, and Bloodshot Reborn #1.

The sixty-minute buzzer goes off, VF loses his mind, and we painfully work through "Next Week's Books" and the books that we want to check out after April 22, 2015.  As always, thanks for listening, and please check out our website graphicnovice.com for newly released articles.

Enjoy Free Comic Book Day!

Nickel and VF (aka Benjamin) return for another episode, ready to take a shot at recording a 60-minute episode.  And, they fail miserably.  Instead, you get 160 minutes worth of stories about VF's roof, purchasing a cabin, thoughts on the Edmonton Oilers winning the NHL draft lottery, new comics versus back issues, digital comic sales as well as the superman v. batman and star wars trailers, and some discussion of March comics sales...  and then some actual comic discussion.

In the aptly named "Rapid-Fire Review", Nickel and VF discuss books released the week of April 8, 2015, including:  Four Points #1, Evil Empire #12, Rebels #1, Convergence #1, Convergence Batgirl #1 (of 2), Convergence Harley Quinn #1 (of 2), Convergence Nightwing Oracle #1 (of 2), Convergence The Question #1 (of 2), Birthright #6, Descender #2, Jupiter's Circle #1, Nameless #3, Saga #27, Savior #1, Walking Dead #140, All-New Hawkeye #2, Ant-Man #4, Howard The Duck #2, Spider-Woman #6 and Rai #8.

Ben (VF) makes his triumphant return after a week away from the podcast with jungle flu, and has some comments on last week's episode with Desmond Hassing (from the Slackademia and Musings of a Geek podcast) and Jason Brigger (from the Musings of a Geek podcast).  The pre-recording plans were to get to the comics quickly and efficiently to keep this week's episode as close to 60 minutes as possible...  and sadly, this might be as close as it gets… so instead of sticking with the plan, the first half hour of the show is spent talking about camping and lawn care.  Once that's out of the way, Nickel and VF discuss the first appearance of the Great Lakes Avengers, and once again rehash their ongoing Civil War debate before eventually moving on to the namesake of this episode, the recently launched Daredevil series on Netflix.

Instead of hopping on the bandwagon, Nickel attempts to nitpick the hell out of Netflix's Daredevil series.  There isn’t that much to criticize, and so as usual, Nickel talks for a long time without really saying anything at all, and after all that, the guys agree...  Daredevil, at least through the first few episodes, is pretty darn good.

In this week's edition of the aptly named "Rapid-Fire Review" books released on April 1, 2015 are discussed, including: The Woods #12, UFOlogy #1 (of 6), Arkham Manor Engame #1 (one-shot), Batman Eternal #52, Convergence #0, Gotham Academy Endgame #1 (one-shot), Black Science #13, Dying and the Dead #2, Nailbiter #11, Southern Bastards #8, Amazing Spider-Man #17, Avengers #43, Spider-Gwen #3, Uncanny Avengers #3, Uncanny Inhumans #0, Wolverines #13, and Rai #8.

With no room left for a feature segment, its straight to the April 8 book release, and a discussion of which books Nickel and VF will be reading.  Thanks a bunch for listening and continuing to download these ridiculously long episodes.

The Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast returns for another week.  After announcing a new 60-minute format change proposal, we changed nothing, and to the surprise of noone, we didnt mangage to cut any time off the podcast.  We spend the non-comic book portion of the show talking about past break-ups, sleeping habits, sneaking back home after a night of drinking and a plethora of other self-indulgent subject matter before moving on to our focus content, comic books. Comic news includes a cutting and insightful review of iZombie and the CW App.  In our weekly review of the books we read from March 18, we discuss Batgirl #40, Batman Eternal #50, Alex + Ada #13, Chrononauts #1, Outcast #7, Red One #1, All-New Captain America #5, All-New X-Men #39, Amazing Spider-Man #16.1, Magneto #16 (Nickel's Book of the Week), Moon Knight #13, Silk #2, and Wolverines #11. We didnt leave enough time to discuss the February Sales totals, so we moved right to a quick look at the books coming out March 25, 2015, and say our weekly goodbyes.

Two-thirds of the original cast returns for episode number “double nickel” where VF reveals a major secret in the first couple minutes of the show.  After VF is done blowing minds, we remember the magic of Ultima Online, we discuss Nickel’s work commitments, fonts, PowerPoint, VF’s roof, podcast networks, podcaster vacations, hot tubs, and winter road conditions.

A trippy new bumper kicks off the "Comic News" segment, where VF stalls as long as he can with news of Greg Capullo’s original art going up for sale before we finally get into the hot topic of the day, the controversy over the Batgirl #41 variant cover.

Two weeks’ worth of “Rapid-Fire Review” finally brings us back to the reading books from the current week again, after we discuss the books that came out March 4 & 11, 2015.

As always, we wrap things up by looking ahead, and talking about the comics we want to check out on March 18, 2015.

Thanks so much for listening.

Its just VF & Nickel in this landmark episode of Graphic Novice. The opening banter touches on some of the other podcasts Nickel may or may not be showing up on, technical and non-technical issues on the Gotham Knights podcast, VF's thoughts on Gotham thus far, VF's texting etiquette, The Angry Ginger's ability to keep Nickel on topic during the Better Call Saul podcast, and eventually... the elephant in the room that is the absence of Doc Thirst, and the seed of an idea that could one day be the Doc Thirst Memorial Karaoke Jam.

In comic news, which takes us quite a while to get to, we discuss the Batman Bunny Suit coming up in Batman #41, DC's Convergence, Marvel's Secret Wars, and the DC movie poster variant covers.

When we finally get to "Rapid-Fire Review" the guys start out trying to get through some of the new releases from both February 25, and March 4.  Some of the books up for discussion include Curb Stomp #1, Evil Empire #11, Batman #39, Low #6, The Wicked + The Divine #8, All-New X-Men #38, New Avengers #30, Spider-Gwen #1, Spider-Man 2099 #9, Superior Iron Man #5, Uncanny Avengers #2, and Wolverines #8.  At this point, Nickel starts to feel the heat at this point, and tries to pull the pin before finishing up the segment, so the guys decide to carry some of the most memorable books from March 11 over to the next episode.

Before calling it a night, we run through the books coming out on March 11, 2015 and leave everyone to our musical dedication to our now semi-retired co-host Doc Thirst.

The pre-comics conversation focuses mainly on Doc Thirst's emotional breakup with his comic shop, as the Graphic Novice team guts out a 53rd episode with VF half in the bag on cold medicine.

The "Rapid-Fire Review" segment reviews some of the books released February 18, 2015, including Crossed Badlands #72, Burning Fields #2, Plunder #1, Batgirl #39, Batman Eternal #46, Teen Titans #7, Tooth and Claw #4, Bitch Planet #3, Deadly Class #11, Lazarus #15, Manifest Destiny #13, Secret Identities #1, All-New Captain America #4, Legendary Star-Lord #9, Nova #27, Uncanny X-Men #31, Grimm Tales of Terror #8, and Lady Mechanika.

Our review of The Walking Dead Volume 16 – A Larger World has been released as a separate stand-alone podcast episode for your listening enjoyment (please see Episode 53.1).

As always, we look ahead to the following week and look at some of the books we’ll be reading after February 28. Thanks a bunch for listening.

Its the end of the Spider-Verse event and Nickel, VF, and Francois are all back for another episode, despite having to squeeze this episode in on early a Saturday morning (and by squeezing the episode in, we mean its less than 2.5 hours).  Some brief coffee discussion, turns into a discussion of fast food, which then turns into a discussion of McDonald's, which then turns into a discussion of nickel's new bodybuilding career, which then turns into a discussion of doc's flimsy knees.

The conversation goes further and further off track, eventually touches on Valentine's Day 2015, and doesn't really turn towards comics discussion of any sort until the 48-minute mark... Another reason we shouldn't record on weekend mornings.

In our somewhat informal "Comic News" segment we talk about the upcoming DC Comics "Convergence" event and what titles will survive, which will be cancelled, and look at some of the new books that will come out of the event.

In our "Rapid-Fire Review" segment, we look at Deep State #4, Wild's End #6, Batman Eternal #45, The Harley Quinn Valentine's Day Special #1, The Empty #1, Southern Bastards #7, All-New X-Men #36, Amazing Spider-Man #14, Darth Vader #1, Nightcrawler #1, Thor #5, X-Men #24, and Guardians of the Galaxy #24.

We wrap things up with a look towards the books coming out February 18, 2015. Thanks to all the "Thirsties" out there for your support!

After wrapping up the 50th episode of Graphic Novice, the guys muster up the strength for at least one more episode. Before discussiing anything comic-related, the guys talk about Nickel's other podcasts, Doc's hockey career, a highly anticipated update on VF's struggles with convenience store sausage biscuits, Frankencastle, conservative Spider-Woman and keychain bottle openers.

A quick discussion of the Spider-Man movie rights smoothly transitions things over to the comic book part of the podcast.

In our weekly discussion of the previous week in comics, we look at Crossed Badlands 71, Batman Eternal 44, Detective Comics 39, Birthright 5, East of West 17, Postal 1, Saga 25, Wytches 4, Nameless 1, Nailbiter 10, Ant-Man 2, Avengers 41, The Black Vortex 1, Hawkeye 21, Punisher 15, Star Wars 2, United States of Murder Inc. 6, & Grimm Tales of Terror #6.

We wrap things up with a look towards the books being released on February 18, 2015. Thanks for listening!

A celebration of 50 episodes, and well over 100 hours of podcasting together, we start out the show with a slightly self-indulgent look at where we're at as a podcast. Nickel bought himself a congratulatory cake and some Smaug Stout for a one-man celebration, and doesn't shut up after the stout kicks in.

The guys talk about Doc's march to the National Hockey League, his troubles at the local comic shop, and then deal with the listener feedback mailbag.

In "Rapid-Fire Review" the guys discuss Evil Empire #10, Batman #38, Batman Eternal #43, Gotham Academy #4, Gotham By Midnight #3, The Multiversity Guidebook #1, Alex + Ada #12, Bitch Planet #2, Cassanova Acedia #1, Dying and The Dead #1, They're Not Like Us #2, Amazing X-Men #16, New Avengers #29, Nova #26, Spider-Man 2099 #8, Thor #4 and Uncanny Avengers #1.

We wrap things up, as always, with a look at the books we're reading in the upcoming week (February 4, 2015), and Nickel drunkedly tries to remember people to thank before VF has to put him out of his misery. Thanks for listening!

After exactly 31 minutes of talking about the music of our past, a Joanne from VF's past, pressing episode 50 to vinyl, hockey, and the old workplace grind, we finally get to our debut of the "Comic News" bumper, featuring a notable increase in "Creed". We try to avoid talking about Marvel's upcoming "Secret Wars" by discussing the trailer for the new Fantastic Four movie being released in the spring of 2015.  But, much like moths to a porch light, we eventually get back Secret Wars, but attempt to put a slightly more positive spin on it, as compared to last episode.

In our review of the comics we read over the past week (a segment we like to call, "Rapid-Fire Review) we look at Crossed + One Hundred #2, Burning Fields #1, Batman Eternal #42, Batman And Robin #38, Teen Titans #6, Tooth & Claw #3, Rumble #2, Spread #5, Wicked + The Divine #7, All-New X-Factor #20, All-New X-Men #35, Amazing Spider-Man #13, Fantastic Four #642, and Superior Iron-Man #4.

In a very special surprise segment, we catch Green Up's Ryan Beagley on the road to discuss his latest podcast, and give him a chance to pay us compliments.

As always, we wrap things up with a look towards the books about to be released (January 28, 2015). Its a long and often completely off-topic episode of Graphic Novice...  just like all the other episodes of Graphic Novice. Thanks for listening!

Graphic Novice records this very special episode in the wake of the big Secret Wars announcement from the New York City ComicCom.  The majority of the episode is spent discussing Secret Wars, but we also reach out to listener "David", provide some weight loss tips, look ahead to Nickel's pending weekend of debauchery, and thank Brian for our Musings of a Geek Secret Santa gift.  After a never-ending discussion of Secret Wars, we move onto some reviews of the books released January 14, 2015. The guys discuss Deep State #3, Wild's End #5, Batman Eternal #41, Grayson #6, Jupiter's Legacy #5, Lazarus #14, All-New Captain America #3, Amazing X-Men #15, Avengers #40, Cyclops #9, Daredevil #12, Nightcrawler #10, and Star Wars #1. As always we finish off with a look ahead to next week's new releases (January 21, 2015). Two key members of the team are notably absent this week (for reasons we cant disclose) VF and the Soundboard.  Nickel and Doc use this opportunity to take some deserved shots at VF and sneak in some hockey talk at the beginning of the show. We talk about dropping coins in a urinal, the hype surrounding Marvel's Star Wars #1, and our Top 5 Horror Genre comics, before discussing what we read during the previous week.

"Rapid-Fire Review focuses comics released on January 7, 2015, and we spends some time talking about Crossed Badlands #69, The Woods #9, Batman Eternal #40, Detective Comics #38, Birthright #4, Deadly Class #10, The Fade Out #4, Nailbiter #9, ODY-C #2, Trees #8, All-New X-Factor #19, Amazing Spider-Man #12, Ant-Man #1, The Punisher #14 and Wolverines #1.

Get ready for the holidays by spending some time with your good friends here at Graphic Novice.  This pre-holiday special starts out with a discussion of the Doc Thirst's four day work week, Canadian Christmas, embellishment fines in the NHL, Twitch TV, Creed front-man Scott Stapp as a CIA agent, iTunes reviews, and a possible hangover day proposal.

In comic book news, the guys look at the DC movie poster themed variant covers, Loot crate, Marvel and DC series coming to an end, and projected sales for Marvel's Star Wars #1, and its many, many, many variants.

In the segment formerly known as "Rapid-Fire Review" we focus our attention on Bitch Planet #1, East of West The World #1, Sex Criminals #9, Southern Bastards #6, Amazing Spider-Man #11, and Uncanny X-Men Annual #1.

We start out by providing some outtakes for the blooper reel, as VF proves that the fate of the podcast lies with the person who controls the soundboard. We talk the perils of alcoholism, blues jams at work, and another discussion of the World of Warcraft, where we get to celebrate a once in a lifetime gaming achievement in the life of Doc Thirst. Once the show gets back on track, we lay down some crack reporting in the "Comic News" segment, and touch on the new Star Wars comic, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Aquaman, and the Preacher TV series.

We then welcome Michael Leal, from the Who The What Now podcast, to help us discuss The Walking Dead, Trade Paperback Volume 12 (Issues #67-72).

"Rapid Fire Review" gets scrapped in favor of spending more time on a smaller number of books, as we take a slightly more in depth look at Crossed + One Hundred #1, Batman Eternal #35, Wolf Moon #1, Jennifer Blood Born Again #5 (of 5), and '68 Homefront #4 (of 4).

We wrap things up with a discussion of the books being released December 10, 2014, and let everyone what we'll be reading, and what we'll be leaving on the shelf.  Thanks to everyone who takes the time to check out our show. We appreciate it, and apologize in advance. Stick with us…  we’ll get better…  eventually.

Graphic Novice records on a day of contraversy after VF mysteriously announces the end of the podcast.  Nickel is taken along for the ride with the rest of the twitterverse, and starts planning his podcasting life after Graphic Novice, while Doc Thirst went goes on with his life, completely unaware of anything announced on twitter.  However, despite the ongoing turmoil in the graphic Novice studios, we are happy to announce that this will not be our final episode.

Once that's cleared up, we start things out with a discussion of Doc's return to Azeroth, as he joins VF in the World of Warcraft.  Nickel then addresses the nightmare that is the Edmonton Oilers before we move on to talk about some actual comic-related news.

The Flash-Arrow television crossover leads us into our pseudo-comic discussion as we compare some of the current television shows, including Gotham and The Walking Dead.  We also look at news regarding Howard The Duck, DC's Convergence event, Tooth and Claw legal issues, and a rumored third installment in Frank Miller's Dark Knight series.

After a week off, we need to cover 2 weeks of books during "Rapid Fire Review", including books released November 19, 2014, and November 26, 2014. We dont spend much time on some of these books, but we briefly look at Lumberjanes #8, Batman and Robin #36, Batman Eternal #33, Teen Titans #4, Wonder Woman #36, Deadly Class #9, Intersect #1, Thief of Thieves #25, Amazing Spider-Man #10, Avengers #38, AXIS #6, Axis Revolutions #2, Daredevil #10, Death of Wolverine: The Weapon X Program #2, Fantastic Four #13, Guardians of the Galaxy #21, Inhuman #8, Magneto #12, Moon Knight #9, New Avengers #26, Punisher #12, Spider-Woman #1, Uncanny X-Men #28, Crossed +100 Taste Test, Arkham Manor #2, Batman Eternal #34, Ody-C #1, Trees #7, Lazarus #13, Annihalator #1, Amazing X-Men #13, Nova #24, Wolverine and the X-Men #12, and Sally of the Wasteland #5.

After months of teasing this tribute episode we finally managed to get a bunch of our friends together to pay our final respects to The Wolverine, following his tragic comic book death this past October.

Through a great deal of soul searching, and meditative contemplation, we realized that there was only one way to properly honor one of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes, and that ofcourse, would be through song.

Here at Graphic Novice, we’re not particularly good at getting facts correct, or even speaking in a coherent and engaging fashion, so we knew that a simple spotlight episode from us just wouldn’t have the impact something like this deserved.  Instead, we thought we might be able to trick some of our podcasting friends into recording off-key parody karaoke songs as a podcast memorial.  Somehow, the devious plan worked, and here it is…  Graphic Novice and Friends’ Wolverine Memorial Karaoke Jam.

In this heartfelt tribute we take a brief but poignant look at the life and times of James “Logan” Howlett, combining a discussion of historical Wolverine stories, and mix in some emotional tribute songs from some of our favorite podcasters.  If you can put up with our banter long enough, you’ll eventually hear Neil C. (Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks), VF (Graphic Novice), Ryan Beagley (Green Up), Nickel (Graphic Novice), Michael Leal (Who The What Now), Jeffrey Nau (The History of Bad Ideas) and Henno (Angela’s Awesome Podcast).

Born to Be My Logan - Neil C. (Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks) - 8:00
Wicked Game – VF (Graphic Novice) – 28:30
I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry – Ryan Beagley (Green Up) – 50:30
Don’t Take Your Claws to Town – Nickel (Graphic Novice) – 1:04:30

The majority of our comic news session revolves around re-numbering, the increasing price of comics, and various event related conspiracies.

Graphic Novice attempts to connect with a new demographic this episode, and as a result, our explicit rating gets a bit more explicit than usual.

The big comic news of the day is DC raising the price of individual Batman issues to $4.99 during the upcoming Endgame arc.  We spend a considerable amount of time talking about comic pricing, and a little bit of time discussing Wolverine's pre-mature death in Nightcrawler #7.

In "Rapid-Fire Review" we look at Crossed Badlands #62, Batman Eternal #26, Detective Comics #35, Gotham Academy #1, Grayson #3, Cutter #1, Nailbiter #6, Peter Panzerfaust #21, Protectors Inc. #9, Alex + Ada #9, The Fade Out #2, Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier #1, Captain America #25, Death of Wolverine #3 (of 4), Moon Knight #8, Silver Surfer #6, Thor #1, Uncanny Avengers #25, X-Men #20, Sally of the Wasteland #3, and Armor Hunters Aftermath #1.

This special episode features Doc, VF and Nickel discussing Nickel's first time at a comic conference, the 2014 Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo. The guys discuss media accrediation, the venue, parking, Alice Cooper, the Image Comics artists panel (featuring Chip Zdarsky, Nat Jones, and Vic Malhotra), cosplay, and walking the floor at a con. An unpolished, unplanned episode that fits in perfectly between landmark episodes 34 and 35. Shorter in length, but longer in Nickel.

Our dear, dear friend Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals co-creator) leads us into this landmark 34th episode of the Graphic Novice Comic Book episode.  After VF brags about his peak physical conditioning, and a quick off-topic discussion of Nickel's time as a pro-gamer, we explain how Graphic Novice became a part of the international press corp.  This episode leads us into all the excitement of the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo.  In comic news, we discuss our thoughts on the premiere of Gotham, the scratch and sniff Harley Quinn cover, InStockTrades, Batman Unwrapped, and Nickel's drunken ebay purchase of the week.  The newly revamped "Rapid-Fire Review" segment includes a discussion of Batman Eternal #25, Deadly Class #7, Trees #5, Avengers #35, Uncanny X-Men #26, and Wolverine and the X-Men #9. We wrap things up with a look at the August sales figures, and list some of the books we'll be reading after the September 24, 2014 new comic book day comes and goes.  Out of all the podcast episodes that Graphic Novice is going to release in the next couple days, this might very well be our favorite.  Thanks a bunch for taking the time to listen.

All three hosts are back together again and we kick things off with some tantalizing discussion of flying beer-can-related injuries, the end of the infamous My Little Pony wager, Nickel's absence, Spiderman and the X-men, and VF at the Memphis Comic Expo.  Moving on to "Comic News", the guys share a few thoughts on the rumors of a Marvel re-boot and the upcoming end of Matt Fraction's Hawkeye series.  In this week's "Bring Out the Dead" segment, everyone's favorite Graphic Novice "suit" Fred joins the panel once again to discuss The Walking Dead Trade Paperback #7 – The Calm Before (Issues #37 – 42).  Spoiler: VF enjoyed it.  In our new abbreviated version of the "Rapid-Fire Review" segment, we look at Lazarus #11, Spread #3, Amazing Spider-Man #6, Avengers #34.1, Hawkeye #20, United States of Murder Inc. #5, and VF looks back at Marvel's Original Sin event. Our Plus/Minus scores are now made available on the website at http://www.graphicnovice.com.  We wrap things up with a look towards some of next week’s books, and call it a night.  Nickel and Baked Beans are back... for now.

Things get switched around this week, as the guys abandon the theme song, the confines of the podcast's structure and format, and one of their co-hosts.  Our Equestria correspondent, Brunellus, stops by at the beginning of the show, to talk about My Little Pony, She-Hulk, and Snowpiercer, before the guys slip into a more laid back and less structured discussion of the books released on September 3, 2014.  They focus their attention on Nailbiter #5, Southern Bastards #4, Death of Wolverine #1, Punisher #10, Rocket Raccoon #3, Uncanny X-Men #25, and Sally of the Wasteland #2.  Before things get wrapped up, Doc reviews some recent subtractions from his pull-list, and VF tells reveals his unhealthy obsession with the Masters of the Universe. Tune in to uncover the truth about the future direction of the Graphic Novice Comic Book podcast, and the fate of both the "Baked Beans" theme song, and Nickel.

In Episode 31 of the Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast we start things off by revealing the parties responsible for hacking iCloud and releasing all the celebrity photos onto the internet.  We spend some time discussing Nickel and VF’s guest appearance on the Green Up podcast, Doc’s troubles with international travel, the Marvel anti-bullying variant covers, and a lengthy and invaluable segment on investing in comic books.

We then move on to "Bringing out the Dead", and look at the 6th Walking Dead Trade Paperback (Issues 31-36), featuring a lengthy discussion regarding the fate of the Governor’s manhood.

During the "Rapid-Fire Review" segment for the books released August 27, 2014, we look at Evil Empire #4, Batman Eternal #21, All-Star Western #34, Red Lanterns #34, Winter World #1, Black Science #8, Low #2, Outcast #3, Saga #22, Wayward #1, All-New X-Men #31, Amazing Spider-Man #1.4, Avengers #34, Cyclops #4, Guardians of the Galaxy #18, Inhuman #4, Silver Surfer #5, Uncanny Avengers #23, Wolverine #12, Wolverine and the X-Men #8, Rai #4, and X-O Manowar #28.

After a quick look at what’s scheduled for release September 3, 2014, we wrap things up and put a pretty bow on another episode of your 54th favorite comic book podcast.

Things get started out with Doc and VF’s attempt to get to the bottom of Nickel’s curious twitter activity leading up to Episode 30. Grease-stained pants almost bring an end to a 7-year relationship, Doc goes camping, and VF discovers the internets and re-kindles his love of He-Man, and after all that gets discussed in detail, we eventually discuss comics.  If you want to know why Graphic Novice never has guests from the comic book industry, listen to the comic news segment preceding Rapid-Fire Review.

After alienating more listeners and potential listeners, the guys discuss Batman and Robin 34, Batman Eternal #20, Teen Titans #2, Dark Engine #2, The Fade Out #1, Manifest Destiny #9, Peter Panzerfaust #20, Protectors Inc. #8, Supreme Blue Rose #2, Trees #4, The Wicked + The Divine #3, All-New X-Factor #12, Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #4, Magneto #8, New Avengers #23, Nova #20, Storm #2, and Grimm Fairly Tales Presents Robyn Hood #1.

The rest of the show segments get postponed due to time, and Doc promises to add some articles to the GraphicNovice.com website. The show wraps up with a summary of the books we’ll be reading from the August 27, 2014 release date.  We get in under 2.5 hours in what might be our last episode prior to some sweeping format changes.  Spoiler: We’re not actually going to change anything.

After management scolds the guys, co-host Nickel starts things out by pitching the most inappropriate but erotic contest in the podcast's short history.  We try to go through all the shows on the Musings of a Geek Podcast Network and fail miserably (sorry shows that we missed).  Marvel Fact Files, Scott Snyder's new upcoming series "Wytches", CGC (graded comic books) and the upcoming East of West One-Shot Encyclopedia/Atlas, all get some discussion (41 minutes worth) before we get to the bi-weekly Walking Dead Trade Paperback Disucssion where we look at TPB #5 (Issues 25-30).  After discussing the gruesome events of the aforementioned Walking Dead books, we move on to the barely anticipated and unaptly named “Rapid-Fire Review” segment.  The books on the list from August 13 include Crossed Badlands #59, Hexed #1, Batman #34, Batman Eternal #19, Birds of Prey #34, Harley Quinn #9, New Suicide Squad #2, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic #22, Sex Criminals #7, Starlight #5, All-New X-Men #30, Amazing Spiderman #5, Amazing X-Men #10, Captain America #23, Fantastic Four #8, Inhuman #3, Nightcrawler #5, Original Sin #7, Spider-Man 2099 #2, United States of Murder Inc. #4, Wolverine #11, Wolverine #11, Wolverine and the X-Men #7, X-Force #8, X-Men #18, Armor Hunters #3, and Thief of Thieves #23.  After sharing their thoughts on all the books we quickly recap the best and worst choices for the week, and the ongoing plus/minus stats.  As always, we look ahead to the following week's books (released August 20, 2014) before calling it a night just short of the 3-hour mark.  Ironically, there was some discussion of cutting down to a 1-hour podcast prior to the show...

Do Snitches Get Stitches? Looks like they do, as Doc Thirst gets shanked in the drunk tank during his week off.  This episode starts out with our two world travellers discussing their adventures, as we discuss the folk music festival in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and a couple of the larger comic shops in Colorado.  Comic news gets skipped over, and we jump right into our inappropriately named "Rapid-Fire Review", and discuss Big Trouble in Little China #3, The Woods #4, Batman Eternal #18, Detective Comics #34, Grayson #2, Alex + Ada #8, Lazarus #10, Nailbiter #4, Spread #2, Black Widow #9, Iron Fist The Living Weapon #5, Kick-Ass 3 #8, Legendary Star-Lord #2, Moon Knight #6, Punisher #9, Rocket Raccoon #2, She-Hulk #7, Superior Spider-Man #32, and The Bunker #5.  After we wrap up the reviews/discussion, we tally up the plus/minus scoring system and pick our best and worst of the week.  Our esteemed co-host Doc sneaks in a quick summary of his extra-curricular reading before we take a look at July comic book sales, and list the books being released on August 13 that we have an interest in. Its Graphic Novice's first episode on Geek Life Radio, and to celebrate we kept her under the 2.5 hours this week.  Recently voted the internet's 6,317th best comic book podcast, please join us for this important moment in Graphic Novice history.

Two out of three ain't bad...  Those of us who have seen The Guardians of the Galaxy were present this week, to discuss the movie, and take a quick look at this week in comics.  Before we look at the week's books, we a few minutes to discuss the reason for our co-host Doc Thirst's absence, his love of Rocket Raccoon, the ongoings over at the Musings of a Geek podcast network, and our thoughts on "The Guardians of the Galaxy" movie.  We then start the Rapid-Fire Review segment for books released on July 30, 2014 and talk about Crossed Badlands #58, Evil Empire #3, Batman Eternal #17, Harley Quinn #8, Black Science #7, East of West #14, Fatale #24, Fuse #6, Low #1, Outcast #2, Ten Grand #10, Avengers #33, Cyclops #3, Guardians of the Galaxy #17, Hawkeye #19, New Avengers #21, Uncanny X-Men #24, and X-Men #17. After selecting our favorite and least favorite books of the week, we look at the Graphic Novice scoring system to assess who is getting the most out of their pull list, then look ahead to the books being released on August 6, 2014.

Episode 27 begins with a discussion of intoxication as Nickel shuns his podcasting responsibilities after overindulging at a bachelor party.  We use this opportunity to critically analyze drinking habits, and try and get a rise out of our podcast nemeses who have yet to acknowledge (or discover) our existence. After spending sufficient time on the topic of alcoholism, we touch on VF's last camping trip and move somewhat promptly (for Graphic Novice) into comic book news.  As we were not invited to, or acknowledged by Comicon, we go full-on sour grapes and tell you why as a comic book fan, you don't need to go. We then display our lack of knowledge regarding the Eisners, discuss some of the winners, and sneak in some accidental banter on equality in comics. Something we're marginally more qualified to talk about, might be the books that came out the previous week, and we do just that during a segment we like to call, "Rapid-Fire Review".  This week we discuss Afterlife With Archie #6, All-Star Western #33, Batman #33, Batman And Robin #33, Batman Eternal #16, Red Lanterns #33, Ragnarok #1, Supreme Blue Rose #1, Saga #21, Trees #3, Undertow #6 (Of 6), Velvet #6, Amazing Spider-Man #4, Original Sin #5.2, Storm #1, Wolverine And The X-Men #6, Armor Hunters #1 and #2 (of 4).  As always we pick our best and worst of the week, and review Doc's scoring system, which reveals once again, that Nickel picks the best books.  We wrap things up with a look at the books coming out July 30, and some administrative issues.  We hope you enjoy what could be our final episode (it also might not be).

026 - Bringing Out The Fred

The Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast returns this week to talk about some things and stuff. That stuff includes a discussion of some comics from the previous week and the fourth Walking Dead trade paperback… eventually.  Prior to our regular comic talk, however, we touch on The Crow, Desmond Hassing’s slighting of Nickel and the History of Bad Ideas Podcast, the great city of Chicago, monthly comic book sales for June 2014, the Overstreet Price Guide, and perhaps the greatest betrayal the Graphic novice team has ever faced.  So that our regular guest Fred doesn’t have to endure 4 hours of recording, we start things off with our Walking Dead segment, covering issues #19-24. As always, we eventually do get to “Rapid-Fire Review” and discuss Crossed Badlands #57, Batman Eternal #15, Robin Rises Omega #1, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic #21, Manifest Destiny #8, The Wicked + The Divine #2, Dark Engine #1, All New X-Factor #11, Magneto #7, Nova #19, Original Sin #6 (of 8), She-Hulk #6, Silver Surfer #4, Uncanny X-Men #23, and X-Men #16. We finish things off with a look ahead to next week’s new releases.  Don’t miss out on the podcast that Doc’s very own mother has finally moved into her top 50 podcasts list.

Its our anniversary show, and we're celebrating with almost 3 more hours of what we do best around here... or at least what we do a lot of around here... talking comics and stuff.  Hydra ponies up some cash to sponsor the big anniversary show (finally helping us to pay some bills) and sneaks in some thought provoking propoganda before a new version of our favorite theme song, Baked Beans, peppered with some of our favorite moments from the first 24 episodes.  Hail Hydra!  And, after all that, we do eventually record a show... We announce our disdain for Dr. Who, Doc screws up the special anniversary guest booking, and the guys talk about Lady Thor, the death of Archie, our network expense checks and the return of the "Back Issue Review".  Before Nickel finally satisfies the listeners' demands, and revives the back Issue Review with a discussion of Fantastic Four #3, we take a look at some of the comics from July 9, 2014 during the aptly named "Rapid-Fire Review" segment.  The books this week include Lumberjanes #4, Batman Eternal #14, Detective Comics #33, Grayson #1, Justice League United #3, '68 Rule of War #4 (of 4), Spread #1, All-New X-Men #29, Amazing Spider-Man #1.3, and Amazing X-Men #9, Avengers #32, Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #3 (of 4), Fantastic Four #7, Nightcrawler #4, Original Sin #5.1, Spider-Man 2099 #1, United States of Murder Inc. #3, Winter Soldier the Bitter March #5 (of 5), Wolverine #10, X-Force #7, Rai #3, Grimm Fairy Tales #99, and Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Robyn Hood Legend #5 (of 5).  After chosing out books of the week, and trying out Doc's new scoring system, we get to an abbreviated version of Back-Issue Review, and wrap things up with a look ahead to the books coming out on July 16th and an important message about cyberbullying.  Thanks to everyone who has checked out our unorthodox podcast during the first 25 episodes...  and Hail Hydra!

024 - The Independence Day Extravaganza & Some Comics Too

Its back to back holiday episodes, as Graphic Novice looks back at the trials and tribulations of the Independence Day Weekend. Doc warns us about the death wobble, and lasts almost 24 minutes before offering up a Cyclops impression, while Nickel rambles on for what seems like an hour trying unsuccessfully to make a point about the Facebook social experimentation news, and compare it to Alysa Milano's "Hacktivist". Once again joined by Executive Producer, Fred, the Walking Dead Trade Paperback Review for TPB #3, "Safety Behind Bars" is moved up to avoid putting Fred to sleep with "Rapid Fire Review". For those of you who make it that far, the "Rapid-Fire Review" segment features Big Trouble In Little China #2, The Woods #3, Batman Eternal #13, Green Lantern #33, Superman Unchained #7, East of West #13, Lazarus #9, Nailbiter #3, Protector’s Inc. #7, Southern Bastards #3, Thief of Thieves #22, All-New X-Factor #10, Black Widow #8, Captain America #22, Magneto #6, Moon Knight #5, Original Sin #5, Rocket Raccoon #1, Punisher #8, RAI #1 & 2.  After reviewing the best and worst of the week, the guys take a look at what's coming out on July 9 before wrapping things up.Take this opportunity to check out the podcast that a couple of people have referred to as, "not completely terrible".

023 - The Spectacular Canada Day Spectacular

Doc, VF and Nickel all take a quick break from their jovial Canada Day celebrations to sit down and talk comics.  The episode starts out with some hockey talk, tales from camping, and a quick Musings of a Geek podcast network update, before unrapidly proceeding to the inappropriately named "Rapid-Fire Review" segment.  In this episode, the guys at Graphic Novice look at Crossed Badlands #56, All-Star Western #32, Batman #32, Batman Eternal #12, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic #20, Deadly Class #6, Fuse #5, Outcast #1, Peter Panzerfaust #19, Saga #20, Trees #2, Undertow #5, Amazing Spider-Man #3, Guardians of the Galaxy #16, New Avengers #20, Uncanny Avengers #21, Wolverine #9, and X-Force #6. Doc sneaks in a review of Revenge #1-4, and there is some brief discussions on Grayson #1, Image comics, and some uninformed but short debate on the future of single issue comics rightt before the guys look at the books coming out July 2 and say their goodbyes.  Happy Canada Day and have a great 4th.

022 - Miles Behind Us

With 22 episodes down on vinyl, the metaphorical 80's metal band that is Graphic Novice starts to show some signs of coming off the rails.  Will the band be able to put their differences behind them, or will they wrap this thing up and decide to go their separate ways?  In between the bickering, we pack this episode with network commercials, quality impressions, public service announcements, and dramatic re-enactments.  VF, Doc and Nickel, and guest host Fred discuss which female superhero they would like to see on the big screen, Marvel comics gossip, the awesomeness of Scott Summers, and Doc's mode of transportation for a pending camping trip.  After sharing some ill-informed opinions on the news of the day, they move onto "Rapid-Fire Review" and look at Witcher #4, Batman Eternal #11, Harley Quinn #7, Alex + Ada #7, Sex Criminals #6, The Wicked + The Divine, Avengers #31, Nova #18, Original Sin #4, Punisher #7, Silver Surfer #3, Uncanny X-Men #22, Wolverine and the X-Men #5, and X-Men #15.  After our always brief and efficient weekly reviews, Fred joins us again, and we share our thoughts and impressions on the second Walking Dead Trade Paperback, "Miles Behind Us" (Issues #7-12).  As always, we wrap things up with a look at what books are coming out during the week ahead.

021 - The Superman Festival, Kearnsy's Email, and a Growler of Non-Alcoholic Beer

We lead off with the trailer for our upcoming movie and show off the acting talents of our very own VF.  Off air, Doc attempts to whip us into shape, demanding that we trim the fat and try to keep the show to under 2 hours...  did we succeed...  listen and find out.  We try to make up for the short running time with our longest title to date.  We spend a little bit less time talking about nothing before getting to our "Rapid-Fire Review Segment", where we discuss Crossed Badlands #55, Lumberjanes #3, Batman Eternal #10, Detective Comics #32, Justice League United #2, United States of Murder #2, Wraith Welcome To Christmasland #7, Manifest Destiny #7, Starlight #4, All-New X-Men #28, Amazing Spider-Man #1.2, Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #2, Hulk #4, New Avengers #19, Nightcrawler #3, Original Sins #1, She-Hulk #5, Wolverine #8, Uncanny and the X-Men Special #1.  Doc tells us about his trip to the Superman Festival in Metropolis Illinois, we read a letter from friend of the show Brian Kearns, and we wrap it all up by taking a look at the books being released on June 18.  At various points throughout the show we mix is some Scott Summers discussion, talk about some DC bombshell covers, and Nickel polishes off an entire growler of non-alcoholic beer.  We also prepare for next week's Walking Dead segment, and provide another helpful public service announcement about sex.

020 - Bring Out Your Dead

In this landmark 20th episode, the Graphic Novice team welcomes a guest host and doesnt let him talk.  After some random off-topic banter, we actually spend a solid portion of the show talking about comics.  The guys put their lack of knowledge on display when discussing random happenings surrounding the world of comics, before moving onto to the highly anticipated "Rapid-Fire Review" segment.  They quickly and efficiently fly through discussions on the first Afterlife with Archie Trade Paperback, Woods #2, Big Trouble in Little China #1, Batman Eternal #9, Green Lantern #32, Future's End #5, 68 Rule of War #3, Nailbiter #2, All-New X-Factor #9, Amazing X-Men #8, Amazing X-Men Annual #1, Black Widow #7, Captain America #21, Cyclops #2, Iron Fist The Living Weapon #3, Magneto #5, Moon Knight #4, and Original Sin #3.  After an hour and a half, Doc, Nickel, and VF let their guest host have some air time, and ask him about the five suggested comics he agreed to read for the show, and get a non-comic book enthusiasts opinions on the books. The guys then embark on a new segment, "Bring Out Your Dead", where they attempt to catch up to the current run of The Walking Dead by reading a Trade Paperback every second week, and discuss their impressions and opinions of the books.  As always, things are wrapped up with a look at the next week in new releases.  Nickel also begins his court mandated Public Service Announcement campaign, with a short message about role models.

019 - Giant-Size Graphic Novice Episode Zero

When our listeners complained to us about the length of each episode, we paid attention... and decided to record our longest episode yet.  Other podcasts stick to a schedule, and try to cram everything into an hour.  Here at Graphic Novice we take pride in the fact that a single episode is all you need to keep you company for a 200 mile drive to the in-laws.  In this episode we take a little bit of time to reveal the inner workings and politics of the Musings of a Geek Podcast Network.  After touching on a few comic book related topics and some hockey talk, we tackle a double shot of "Rapid-Fire Review" and discuss Batman Eternal #7, Birds of Prey #31, Harley Quinn #6, Future's End #3, East of West #12, Undertow #4, Saga #19, Velvet #5, All-New X-Factor #8, Amazing Spider-Man #2, Amazing #7, Daredevil #3, Hulk #3, Magneto #4, Nova #17, Original Sin #2, Uncanny X-Men #21, Wolverine and the X-Men #2, X-Men #14, Bunker #4, All-Star Western #31, Batman Eternal #8, Guardians of the Galaxy #15, Inhuman #2, Uncanny Avengers #20, Winter Soldier #4, Wolverine #7, Dead Body Road #6, Deadly Class #4, Fuse #4, Southern Bastards #2, Thief of Thieves #21, and Trees #1.  We wrap everything up with a tidy little bow just a hair under the three hour mark, with a quick look at next week's books, and our plans for the next episode.

The hosts of Graphic Novice have to travel back in time to record this episode in sequential order, and keep the podcast on track.  Journey back with the guys to a simpler time, May 21 2014 to be exact, and enjoy a trip down memory lane as we slowly and gradually discuss the comics we read way back in the dog days of May, including Afterlife With Archie #5, Lumberjanes #2, Batman Eternal #6, Wraith Welcome to Christmasland #6, Starlight #3, All-New Ghost Rider #3, All-New X-Men #27, Avengers #29, Captain America #20, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1, Fantastic Four #4, New Avengers #18, Nightcrawler #2, United States of Murder Inc. #1, Wolverine #6, X-Force #5, Manifest Destiny TPB 1.  While visiting the past, we also spend some time on the big comic book movies currently in the theatres, and discuss Nickel's most embarrassing guilty pleasure.  We've cut down on the singing, but added a whole bunch of time travel.

Maids and Wynter #1 and 2.  We then turn our attention to the Eisner Comic Industry awards for 2014, and discuss the nominees in a few of the categories we're interested in.  As always, things get wrapped up with a look ahead to some of the books we're anticipating in the week to come, but as a special spring bonus, we close out the episode with a touching tribute song.
