Graphic Novice Comic Book Podcast
A sometimes misinformed, sometimes shockingly informed, weekly discussion of all things that are even vaguely related to the world of comics. Each episode we review current releases, discuss issues relevant to reading and collecting comic books and mix in a healthy dose of comical off-topic banter. You can reach us at email@graphicnovice.com, or come check out the various other sources of propaganda we offer at http://www.graphicnovice.com.

This week, Graphic Novice pays homage to Dolly Parton Wednesdays, and celebrates one of country music's all-time sweethearts off the top of the show.  We continue our exploration of the female form with a look at newsworthy women in comics this week, including a Wonder Woman makeover, and a controversial Spider-Woman cover image.  After discussing an intellectual look at Spider-Woman's physique, we debate the various reactions to scantily clad females in comics.  A quick review of Marvel's AXIS event precedes our "Rapid-Fire Review" segment.  Our review of the books from November 12, 2014 includes Crossed Badlands #65, Deep State #1, Evil Empire #7, Wild's End #3, Grindhouse Drive In Bleed Out #1, Batgirl #36, Batman #36, Batman Eternal #32, The Kitchen #1, Alex + Ada #10, Drifter #1, Fade Out #3, Outcast #5, Walking Dead #134, Wytches #2, All-New Captain America #1, Axis #5, Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #1, Death of Wolverine: The Logan Legacy #4, Nightcrawler #8, Nova #23, She-Hulk #10, Spider-Verse #2, Superior Iron Man #1, and Thor #2.  We then bring out our Fred for the "Bring Out Your Dead" segment, where we look at Walking Dead TPB #11 (Issues 61-66).  Things get wrapped up with an interesting aeronautic twist on next week's books. Thanks for checking us out, we've been working hard on our gluts.

We start out by discussing the Wolverine Memorial Karaoke Jam, our twitter activity, the Musings of Geek Podcast network, Batman '66, and the historic ties between comics and professional wrestling.

After months of teasing this tribute episode we finally managed to get a bunch of our friends together to pay our final respects to The Wolverine, following his tragic comic book death this past October.

Through a great deal of soul searching, and meditative contemplation, we realized that there was only one way to properly honor one of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes, and that ofcourse, would be through song.

Here at Graphic Novice, we’re not particularly good at getting facts correct, or even speaking in a coherent and engaging fashion, so we knew that a simple spotlight episode from us just wouldn’t have the impact something like this deserved.  Instead, we thought we might be able to trick some of our podcasting friends into recording off-key parody karaoke songs as a podcast memorial.  Somehow, the devious plan worked, and here it is…  Graphic Novice and Friends’ Wolverine Memorial Karaoke Jam.

In this heartfelt tribute we take a brief but poignant look at the life and times of James “Logan” Howlett, combining a discussion of historical Wolverine stories, and mix in some emotional tribute songs from some of our favorite podcasters.  If you can put up with our banter long enough, you’ll eventually hear Neil C. (Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks), VF (Graphic Novice), Ryan Beagley (Green Up), Nickel (Graphic Novice), Michael Leal (Who The What Now), Jeffrey Nau (The History of Bad Ideas) and Henno (Angela’s Awesome Podcast).

Born to Be My Logan - Neil C. (Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks) - 8:00
Wicked Game – VF (Graphic Novice) – 28:30
I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry – Ryan Beagley (Green Up) – 50:30
Don’t Take Your Claws to Town – Nickel (Graphic Novice) – 1:04:30

Red Red Wine – Jeffrey Nau (The History of Bad Ideas) – 1:56:45

Graphic Novice welcomes Michael Leal from the "Who The What Now?!" podcast, to talk about a plethora of comic news, including some of the pending comic book movies, The Wolverine Memorial Karaoke Jam, MIchael's creator-owned comic book, "Curse of the Vessel", and ofcourse, Doc Thirst's upcoming book, "Amazing Girl and Her Amazing Friends".  In "Rapid Fire Review" (for October 22, 2014) we look at the 2014 Crossed Special, Arkham Manor #1, Batman Eternal #29, Harley Quinn #11, Lazarus #12, The Wicked + The Divine #5, All-New X-Factor #15, Amazing Spider-Man #8, Amazing X-Men #12, Avengers #37, Avengers and X-Men: Axis #3 (of 9), Cyclops #6, She-Hulk #9, as well as a brief summary of the Hulk vs. Iron Man Original Sin books.  The guys quickly go through the best and worst of the week, and then move onto the "Bring Out Your Dead" segment, where they discuss The Walking Dead Trade Paperback #10 (which covers issues #55-60). Afterwards we quickly look at some of the books we'll be reading next week, and say good night. A big thanks to Michael Leal for slumming it down at the Graphic Novice studios for a few hours.
